TWO FISCHER THREE-FOLD VICTORIES AT „LA SGAMBEDA“
The season of skimarathons had it’s kick-off this weekend at La Sgambeda in Livigno (ITA). Over 42 km in free technique Petter Northug (NOR, Fischer), Petr Novak (CZE, Fischer skis, boots and poles) and Aliaksei Ivanou (BLR, Fischer skis and boots), as well as Riitta-Liisa Roponen (FIN, Fischer skis and boots), Seraina Boner (SUI, Fischer) and Larisa Shaidurova (RUS; Fischer) claimed two three-fold victories for the Fischer Racing Team.
After he didn't even get into the top 30 in the 30km FT World Cup race in Davos (SUI) yesterday, the Norwegian outstanding athlete repeated today last years victory at La Sgambeda.
Always in the leading group, Northug managed once again to outprint everyone. However, this year it was not so easy. Petr Novak (CZE) and Aliaksei Ivanou (BLR) held hard against the sprinting Norwegian, however, it was Northug who's foot crossed the finish line first. Just about the margin of 0.7seconds ahead of Petr Novak and shortly followed by Aliaksei Ivanou. Petter Northug: „However, the others didn't make it that easy to win this time I really enjoyed the race.“
On the women's side, it was a hard battle between last year's winner and third-placed: Riita-Liisa Roponen (FIN) and Seraina Boner (SUI) with Roponen having slightly more energy left for the final sprint. Larisa Shaidurova (RUS), who raced her first ever long distance race could get into third place.
