GERMAN WOMEN'S RELAY TRIUMPHATES IN LE GRAND BORNAND
At the World Cup premiere in French Le Grand Bornand German biathletes Franziska Preuß (GER, Fischer skis and boots), Andrea Henkel (GER, Fischer skis and boots), Franziska Hildebrand (GER) and Laura Dahlmeier (GER, Fischer skis and boots) celebrated relay victory ahead of Ukraine and Norway.
German team unbeatable
It was almost a wire-to-wire victory for the German relay girls - merely shooting star Franziska Preuß had to range herself behind Selina Gasparin (SUI), but after the first hand-over Andrea Henkel outweighed the few seconds disadvantage against the Swiss already before her first shooting. Alltogether team Germany showed an excellent performance and after their second spot last week in Hochfilzen they secured victory today with just three spare rounds. " The best thing in relays is to have a good advantage and I am happy that everything went so well and I needed nary spare rounds", Dahlmeier stated who was able to enjoy the final lap. Second went to team Ukraine consisting of Juliya Dzhyma (UKR, Fischer skis and boots), Vita and Valj Semerenko (UKR, Fischer) and Olena Pidhrushna (UKR, Fischer skis and boots), 23 seconds back. In the final stretch Pidhrushna surprisingly edged out Tora Berger (NOR, Fischer skis, boots and poles) who built a team with her compatriots Tiril Eckhoff (NOR, Fischer skis and boots), Fanny Welle-Strand Horn (NOR) and Synnøve Solemdal (NOR). Fourth surprisingly went to team Canada with Rosanna Crawford (CAN), Megan Imrie (CAN), Megan Heinicke (CAN, Fischer skis and boots) and Zina Kocher (CAN).
