CZECH TEAM CATCHES VICTORY IN BIATHLON MIXED RELAY
Czech biathlon quartet Veronika Vitkova (CZE, Fischer skis and boots), Gabriela Soukalova (CZE, Fischer skis and boots), Zdenek Vitek (CZE) and Ondrej Moravec (CZE, Fischer) celebrated victory in mixed relay at biathlon World Cup opener in Östersund ahead of Norway and Ukraine.
France beaten in the end
For a long time team France with their newcomer Simon Desthieux (FRA, Fischer skis and boots) seemed to secure a serious victory: The girls Marie Laure Brunet and Marie Dorin Habert (both FRA) showed a perfect performance, Simon Desthieux increased their lead. But the normally outstanding Martin Fourcade (FRA) quarreled with the gusty winds in Sweden and in his standing stage he lost his 90 seconds lead with three penalties. Therefor surpringly after this race progress the Czech were able to celebrate victory. The team finished without any penalty and only eigth spare rounds and was 10.2 seconds ahead of Norway consisting of Tora Berger (NOR, Fischer skis, boots and poles), Synnoeve Solemdal (NOR), Vetle Sjastad Christiansen and Tarjei Boe (both NOR, Fischer) and 11.1 seconds ahead of France after crossing the line. As Fourcade fired off just two patrons at his standing stage the team was prosecuted with a two-minute-penalty. Thus set them back behind Ukraine with Olena Pidhrushna (UKR, Fischer skis and boots), Valj Semerenko (UKR, Fischer), Serhiy Semenov (UKR, Fischer) and Andriy Deryzemlya (UKR, Fischer skis and boots) and the Italians Dorothea Wierer (ITA), Karin Oberhofer (ITA, Fischer skis and boots), Dominik Windisch (ITA, Fischer skis and boots) and Lukas Hofer (ITA).
