Ukraine came out on top
Ukrainian girl along with Semerenko twins, Dzhyma and last skier Pidhrushna started as one of the top favourites in today's women's 4x6k relay and totally lived up to expectations. The quartet was within the leading group during the whole race and were never more than 15 seconds on spot three seperated from the lead until Juliya Dzhyma took the lead after fourth shooting followed by Russia - then they never lost their lead until crossing the line. They secured Olympic title with five spare rounds and 26 seconds ahead of Russia consisting of Yana Romanova, Olga Zaitseva, Ekaterina Shumilova and Olga Vilukhina (RUS) in front of their home crowd with just four missed targets. Bronce medallists from Norway dropped back with their first skier Fanny Welle-Strand Horn but Tiril Eckhoff, Ann Kristin Åfedt Flatland and Tora Berger (NOR) shortened their gap second by second and secured at least the bronce medal after five spare rounds, 37 seconds back, after Tora Berger wasn't able to show another excellant final lap shortly before her carreer's end. Fourth and fifth went to Czech Republic and Belarus especially due to excellent cat-up races by Czech's second skier Gabi Soukalova (CZE) as well as Belarus' anchorwomen Darya Domracheva (BLR). Medal candidates from Germany and France resigned fighting for medals. German biathletes had a raven black day also in this competiton after the announcement of a positive doping test in their team aerlier today. In French team sick Marie Laure Brunet (FRA) totally collapsed already after the first shooting and they had to resign the race.
