Norwegian mixed relay consisting of Tora Berger, Tiril Eckhoff, Ole Einar Bjørndalen and Emil Hegle Svendsen (NOR) succeeded with winning the gold medal at Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Silver went to Czech Republic followed by Italy.
Norway in the lead after fifth shooting
Norwegian biathletes dominated more or less today's mixed relay. Already the women Tora Berger and Tiril Eckhoff were always within the leading group, the men made sure the result and never lost the lead. The basis for that triumph was their great shooting performance - except for the two spare rounds in Tora Berger's standing stage all Norwegians shot totally clean. Silver went to the Czech team composed of Veronika Vitkova, Gabriela Soukalova, Jaroslav Soukup and Ondrej Moravec (CZE) with alltogether seven spare rounds and 32 seconds disadvantage - for Soukalova it was already her second medal, for Moravec even his third one. Bronce medal was won by Italy represented by Dorothea Wierer, Karin Oberhofer, Dominik Windisch and Lukas Hofer (ITA) with six misses, 58 seconds behind. The German quartet consisting of Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle, Laura Dahlmeier, Daniel Böhm and Simon Schempp (GER) was able to ski relayed during their final loop: The medals were far away after nine spre rounds and the next chasers with Russia's Olga Zaitseva, Olga Vilukhina, Evgeniy Garanichev and Anton Shipulin (RUS) who finished fifth were also far enough behind.
