Tim Hug (SUI, Fischer) succeeded in a weak field in nordic combined World Cup in Cjaikovsky (RUS) and celebrated his first ever World Cup victory. Second went to Björn Kircheisen (GER, Fischer skis and boots) ahead of Miroslav Dvorak (CZE, Fischer).
First Swiss victory since Hippolyt Kempf
For the Swiss team it was the first World Cup success since Hippolyt Kempf 1994 who is now the leader of Swiss nordic combined team. Tim Hug started in tenth position into the cross-country race with a 1:18 minutes disadvantage but in the weak field he came to the top after six kilometres. During the last lap he escaped from Willi Denifl (AUT) and stormed to his first victory. "Today was my day! I like it cold. I enjoy it to be on top today, last Swiss win was long time ago", he told. Second went to Björn Kircheisen who started 1:33 minutes behind Evgeniy Klimov (RUS, Fischer skis and boots) and regained ground together with Miroslav Dvorak and Lukas Klapfer (AUT). Samuel Costa (ITA, Fischer skis and boots) and Armin Bauer (ITA, Fischer skis, boots and poles) finished seventh and eighth.
