Thomas Morgenstern (AUT, Fischer) celebrated a podium result at Neujahrsspringen in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and finished second ahead of Simon Ammann (SUI, Fischer).
Injury barely handicaps
Despite his injuries Thomas Morgenstern is actually one of the best skijumpers at Four-Hills-Tournament and he captured second spot in overall ranking behind Thomas Diethart (AUT) after his second place today. Morgenstern was eleven points after his compatriot after two rounds but he left Simon Ammann clearly behind. "It is a very, very positive day for the Austrians. I accepted the challenge because I don't like this hill. Both Austrian hill suits me more, so I am looking forward to it", Morgenstern said. Sixth went to Noriaki Kasai (JPN, Fischer) followed by Kamil Stoch (POL, Fischer) and Gregor Schlierenzauer (AUT, Fischer). Richard Freitag (GER, Fischer) finished ninth.
