KIKKAN RANDALL AND EMIL JÖNSSON WIN FREE SPRINT IN QUEBEC
Kikkan Randall (USA, Fischer) secured another victory in individual event in Quebec-City after her success in team sprint yesterday. In men's sprint Emil Jönsson (SWE, Fischer skis and boots) celebrated victory ahead of his opponents.
"Kikkanimal" unbeatable again
Again Kikkan Randall was able to triumphate in front of all the US fans. The US girl from Alaska controlled the races and was often ahead of the others in her heats. In the final a predecision was made early: Kikkan Randall upheld the pace, Maiken Caspersen Falla (NOR, Fischer) tried to catch up with the American und finished second behind jubilating Kikkan who secured her sixth individual win in World Cup. "I was pushed on a lot by this phantastic audience, it's embarassing here in Quebec", Randall said. Natalia Korosteleva (RUS, Fischer) came in sixth. Anne Kyllönen (FIN, Fischer skis and boots) and Magdalena Pajala (SWE, Fischer skis and boots) shortly missed the final and finished seventh and eighth ahead of Denise Herrmann (GER, Fischer). Russians Svetlana Nikolaeva and Evgenia Shapovalova (both RUS, Fischer) became eleventh and twelfth.
Jönsson comes out on top
After two crashes in the last individual and team sprints luck was on Emil Jönsson's side which means his eleventh World Cup win (plus three wins in World Cup stages). The 27-year-old was able to beat Alexey Petukhov (RUS, Fischer skis and boots) in the final stretch, the Russian finished third behind Jönsson's team mate Peterson. Fourth went to Norwegian Anders Gloeersen (NOR, Fischer) followed by Andy Newell (USA, Fischer). Eirik Brandsdal (NOR, Fischer) missed the final just by a hair's breadth. Anssi Pentsinen (FIN, Fischer) came in ninth ahead ofRobin Bryntesson (SWE, Fischer).
