Marit Bjoergen (NOR, Fischer skis and boots) secured her second season's victory in Kuusamo. She won the classical sprint ahead of two brand mates. In men's race two Fischer skiers also reached a podium.
Bjoergen controlls the final heat
Without bigger problems Marit Bjoergen celebrated vcitory in the final heat. She benefitted of a strong semi final where she already met her biggest opponents in classical sprint, Kikkan Randall (USA, Fischer) and Justyna Kowalczyk (POL, Fischer skis and boots). Both missed the final, Kowalczyk was just by a hair's breadth too slow and finished seventh. Randall became tenth. "I have not trained sprints that much this year. I have been working hard on my technique on steep uphills. I was satisfied with it in the semifinal and also in the final. I felt very good and my skis were perfect. It is good to see I am competitive in the sprints", Bjoergen said. Second went to strong skiing Evgenia Shapovalova (RUS, Fischer) and her compatriot Anastasia Dotsenko (RUS, Fischer) made a podium, too. Anne Kyllönen (FIN, Fischer skis and boots) finished fourth, Katja Visnar (SLO, Fischer skis and boots) sixth. Celine Brun-Lie (NOR, Fischer) finished eighth, Ida Sargent (USA,Fischer) ninth and Perianne Jones (CAN, Fischer) became twelfth.

Northug beaten in the final stretch
Like nearly all other heats the final was quite exciting. First the Russians Kriukov (RUS) and Dmitry Japarov (RUS, Fischer) were ahead followed by the Norwegians. But at the last long uphill Petter Northug (NOR, Fischer) overtook his opponents. In the final stretch Kriukov was better again and won the race. Northug came in second ahead of Eirik Brandsdal (NOR, Fischer), fourth went to Japarov and Alexey Poltoranin (KAZ, Fischer skis and boots) became fifth. Northug was very disappointed after his defeat. He directly left the finish area and missed the lap of honour where all the other finalists took place. "I managed to fight for a good position on the last climb. I had a good feeling today but the finish was not as good as I had hoped for", said Northug. Best skier in prologue, Emil Jönsson (SWE, Fischer skis and boots) showed a great performance but he fell in the semi final and finished only ninth. Alexey Petukhov (RUS, Fischer skis and boots) came in seventh, Gleb Retivykh (RUS, Fischer skis and boots) finished eleventh.
