Bernhard Gruber (AUT, Fischer skis and boots) secured a podium finish in the first competition in Lillehammer in Nordic Combined.

96 metres was enough in skijumping for Austrian Bernhard Gruber to reach a good fifth place at the jumping hill. In skiing in Sjusjoen, 15 kilometres away from Lillehammer, he was able to keep the contoct to the fast skiers. He was faster in the final stretch than Haavard Klemetsen (NOR, Fischer) who was leading after jumping and secured third place ahead of Klemetsen. Behind the Norwegian who was catched up during the second lap Marjan Jelenko (SLO, Fischer) finished fifth followed by Francois Braud (FRA, Fischer skis and boots). Their brand mates Miroslav Dvorak (CZE, Fischer) and Magnus Krog (NOR, Fischer) came in eighth and ninth ahead of Akito Watabe (JPN, Fischer skis and boots). Watabe was runner-up in Overall ranking last year and ended in tenth rank today, ten seconds back.
