Today's individual competition on olympic tracks in Sochi was resoundingly successful for Darya Domracheva (BLR, Fischer skis and boots). Tora Berger (NOR, Fischer skis, boots and poles) made another podium result. In men's race Andreas Birnbacher (GER, Fischer) shortly missed his victory. He came in second followed by Serhiy Semenov (UKR, Fischer).
1:37 minutes faster than the rest of the world
At the latest in today's competition biathletes noticed that olympic biathlon tracks in Krasnaya Polyana are extremely difficult. There is a long and hard uphill after the stadium from the lowest up to the highest point of the track and difficult downhills and due to the challenging track there were huge diffences in ski times. Although the tracks are not made for gliders the strong Belarussian flew over the track and was 1:37 minutes faster than the second-fastest athlete Miriam Gössner (GER, Fischer). So the Belarussian took the victory despite her two penalties and won 34 seconds ahead of clear shooting Olga Zaitseva (RUS) and Tora Berger who missed one target. "I saved some energies during the first loops for the last loop but in these downhills you can't relax. The muscles are always clenched during the race", Domracheva smiled and nevertheless is looking forward to Olympic games on these difficult tracks. Andrea Henkel (GER, Fischer skis and boots) came in fourth ahead of Magdalena Gwizdon (POL, Fischer) and Kaisa Mäkäräinen (FIN, Fischer skis and boots). Just as Gwizdon Susan Dunklee (USA, Fischer skis and boots) surprised with a strong shooting performance and finished seventh followed by Gabriela Soukalova (CZE, Fischer skis and boots) and Anastasiya Kuzmina (SVK, Fischer). Teja Gregorin (SLO, Fischer) was ranked tenth.

Caught up in the final loop
For a long time everything looks like the third season's win for Andreas Birnbacher but Overall World Cup winner Martin Fourcade (FRA) started with high start number into his race and caught up his disadvantage against the clear shooting German in the final lap. "When he started 17 seconds behind into his final lap I knew he would catch me. I overstayed a bit during my second lap", Birnbacher stated. Round about seven seconds behind he finished second ahead of Ukrainian Serhiy Semenov who started with number two early into his race and hit all targets. Fast-skiing Latvian Andrejs Rastorgujevs (LAT, Fischer skis and boots) showed a good shooting performance this time with just one miss and secured his best World Cup result ever in finishing fourth. Björn Ferry (SWE, Fischer skis and boots) came in seventh, Dmitry Malyshko (RUS, Fischer) finished ninth ahead of Ivan Joller (SUI, Fischer skis and boots).
