AUSTRIANS CELEBRATE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE IN TEAM EVENT AT LONG HILL
Austrians Wolfgang Loitzl (AUT), Manuel Fettner (AUT), Thomas Morgenstern (AUT, Fischer) and Gregor Schlierenzauer (AUT, Fischer) secured gold medal in team event at long hill ahead of Germany and Poland.
Austrians 14 points ahead
It was a competition with great performances, an injury and a debatable jury decision after a protest: The Austrians finally celebrated a predominant victory 14 points ahead and they defended their title. Thereby they had a lot of luck that Manuel Fettner was able to stand his final jump artistic on one foot although he lost one ski at the landing. Just a few minutes later bewailed about pain in his right knee after landing, maybe a meniscus problem: Obviously there were already problems during his warm-up.
Jury decision against Norway
The competition was very hard-fought for a long time: Four teams fighted for the first four spot until the end. After eight jumps team Norway along with Andreas Stjernen (NOR, Fischer), Tom Hilde (NOR, Fischer), Anders Bardal (NOR, Fischer) and Anders Jacobsen (NOR) was happy about their second rank but after jury decision they were only ranked fourth. Soon after the end of competiton a jury meeting which lasted more than 30 minutes was held to get an official result. Obviously Bardal started at another gate as announced in the first round and the fate factor was wrongly calculated. After jury correction silver medal went to team Germany consisting of Andreas Wank (GER, Fischer), Michael Neumayer (GER, Fischer), Severin Freund (GER, Fischer) and Richard Freitag (GER, Fischer) who were just 0.8 points ahead of Poland along with Maciej Kot (POL, Fischer) , Piotr Zyla (POL, Fischer), Dawid Kubacki (POL) and Kamil Stoch (POL, Fischer). Norway finished only fourth, 3.7 points behind Poland.
