Therese Johaug (NOR, Fischer) is the new World Champion in 10k free race ahead of her team mate Marit Bjoergen (NOR, Fischer skis and boots) and Yulia Tchekaleva (RUS, Fischer). Miriam Gössner (GER, Fischer) shortly missed the podium.
Johaug fast during the second half of the race
Therese Johaug celebrated her World Championship title after an exciting duel with her compatriot Marit Bjoergen. After five kilometres the Norwegians were fighting head-to-head but during the second half of the race Johaug was able to extemd her lead from intermediate point to intermediate point. After crossing the line Johaug was 10.2 seconds ahead of Bjoergen. Bronce medal surprisingly came to Russian Yulia Tchekaleva who showed a great race from start to finish and was always fighting for a medal. Just half a second behind biathlon loan Miriam Gössner finished fourth. Olympic Champion Charlotte Kalla (SWE, Fischer) and Riitta-Liisa Roponen (FIN, Fischer skis and boots) came in seventh and eighth, Coraline Hugue (FRA, Fischer skis and boots) was ranked tenth.
