Eric Frenzel (GER, Fischer skis and boots) celebrated his third victory in a row at nordic combined World Cup in Klingenthal. He succeeded in gundersen event, fourth went to Bernhard Gruber (AUT, Fischer skis and boots).
First home victory since five years
For the first time after five years of waiting (at that time Ronny Ackermann succeeded in Klingenthal) a German athlete was able to triumphate in Saxon Klingenthal. Eric Frenzel controlled the cross-country race after a great skijump. The Saxon started first into the cross-country race  but he took off carefully because of the challenging uphill during the first kilometre and his chaser closed the gap. Later the German acted tactically as well and attacked not until the last uphill before finish. "The track is very challenging. I knew if I would attack I'll do this not until the last uphill. My legs felt good this morning but it seems to be easier as it was", Frenzel stated. "I was very excited this morning as I wasn't for quite a few years. But in front of my home crowd after my great result during the last weeks I wanted to do it on the same way on my home hill." This victory means a small lead in Overall World Cup ranking for Frenzel after Jason Lamy Chappuis (FRA) finished only fifth behind Bernhard Gruber. Johannes Rydzek and Janis Morweiser as well as Björn Kircheisen (all GER, Fischer skis and boots) completed great German team result in spots seven, eight and ten, Tim Hug (SUI, Fischer) came in ninth.
