SLOVENIAN EAGLES SUCCEED IN ZAKOPANE AHEAD OF POLAND
Slovenian skijumpers Jurij Tepes (SLO, Fischer), Robert Kranjec (SLO, Fischer), Jaka Hvala (SLO) and Peter Prevc (SLO) celebrated victory in team event in Zakopane. They won nine points ahead of Poland.
Poland lose their lead
After the first competition round everything seemed to be a plain sailing for Polish jumpers Piotr Zyla (POL, Fischer), Maciej Kot (POL, Fischer), Krzysztof Mietus (POL, Fischer) and Kamil Stoch (POL, Fischer): The team was 25 points ahead of Slovenia and further 13 points ahead of Norway but in the final round the tide turned with changeable wind conditions. The whole Slovenian team showed a well-balanced performance and they jumped between the 120 and 130 metre mark in all eight attemps. While Kamil Stoch was the best athlete in the whole competition his team mate Krzysztof Mietus reached only 118 and 108 metres so the team dropped back behind the Slovenians. Third went to today poor team Austria consisting of Wolfgang Loitzl (AUT), Andreas Kofler (AUT, Fischer), Thomas Morgenstern (AUT, Fischer) and Thomas Kraft (AUT, Fischer) without sick Gregor Schlierenzauer (AUT, Fischer), 62 points back.
