Simon Schempp (GER, Fischer) secured the third place in the first biathlon competition in 2011/2012. In the individual competition he only had to surrender to Frenchman Martin Fourcade and the Czech Michal Slesingr.
Simon Schempp is back!
With a great result Simon Schempp celebrated his comeback after a season of illness. The Swabian had completed his summer training successfully and made the podium in this season's opener. The 23-year-old missed one target just like Fourcade and Slesingr and delivered a tough race against time with the second-placed Czech until the finish. The German finished third 0.2 seconds behind Slesingr. Nevertheless, Schempp was highly satisfied after his race: "I didn't feel so good today, but on the track it was okay. Recently I have quarreled a lot with the shooting, but today it worked well."
Ustyugov (RUS) and Fak (SLO) in the top ten
Being the first competitor on track, Russian Evgeny Ustyugov (Fischer skis and boots) showed a good race and finished fifth after getting two penalties. In spite of many health problems in the end of last season and during summer training the native Croatian Jakov Fak (Fischer) demonstrated a very strong running shape. On the track he run the fifth-fastest time and was just 55 seconds slower than the quick Fourcade. The 24-year-old could finish eigth despite missing three targets.
