FISCHER-ATHLETES SUCCESSFUL IN SJUSJOEN RELAYS
Norwegian team dominated first women's relay. Fischer-athletes Vibeke Skofterud (Fischer), Therese Johaug (Fischer) and Marit Bjoergen (Fischer Skis and boots) won the race ahead of Norway II and Finland. In men's race Petter Northug (Fischer) secured victory for his team Norway I in the finish sprint, too.
Team Norway unbeatable again
Vibeke Skofterud, Therese Johaug and Marit Bjoergen claimed victory in Women's 4x5 kilometres relay in Sjusjoen (NOR). The whole race they had everything under control and won easily ahead of Norway II with Fischer-athletes Astrid Jacobsen (Fischer skis and boots) and Tora Berger (Fischer skis, boots and poles). Riitta-Liisa Roponen (FIN, Fischer skis and boots) claimed third place with her team mates. "We did definitively took
the relay serious and not as granted. We started the new day this
morning with a new focus - the relay. It was great to ski today and I
felt again very good. We are all really happy to win the relay, a relay
is always something special and a lot can happen", Vibeke Skofterud said after the race.
Northug leads Norway to another World Cup victory
As in many races before Petter Northug secured victory for his team Norway I together with his brand mate Finn Haagen Krogh (Fischer) in the last 100 metres. He fired the turbo and crossed the finish line a few metres ahead of the others. Sjur Roethe (Fischer) was the last skier in team Norway III who became 2nd. Roethe and his brand mate Morten Eilifsen showed a great race and were very happy after their finish: "I'm happy to be on the podium today. The last leg was a tactical one but at the end I pushed hard and could take the second spot for our team", Roethe said. Team Sweden Marcus Hellner (Fischer), Daniel Rickardsson (Fischer skis and boots), Johan Olsson and Calle Halfvarsson (all Fischer skis) became 3rd in the last sprint although Halfvarsson had a few problems in the last uphill: "In the last uphill I was behind and lost a bit the connection. I had to pass all for the finish sprint and that was not so easy. But at the end we finished third. I am satisfied with my race but for sure I was a bit nervous before and during it. It is a great honor to race the last leg for Sweden", he said.
