Magdalena Neuner (GER, Fischer skis and boots) has defended her World Championship title in Biathlon-Sprint and took the victory again in Ruhpolding. Daniel Mesotitsch (AUT, Fischer skis and boots) placed fourth in the men’s sprint competition.

Superior performance by Neuner

It will be her last championships and she is on her way to make her announcement come true: Magdalena Neuner has won the gold medal in the sprint competition and it’s already her second medal in the second competition. The big goal is six medals in six races. With  clean shooting and a superior running performance she won against Darya Domracheva (BLR, Fischer skis and boots) and Vita Semerenko (UKR, Fischer), who also shot clean. The places four to six went to Helena Ekholm (SWE, Fischer skis and boots), Marie Laure Brunet (FRA) and Tora Berger (NOR, Fischer skis and boots).

Favorites win men’s race

The mens sprint competition was won by Martin Fourcade (FRA) followed by Emil Hegle Svendsen (NOR), the two big favorites in front of the race. They could take first and second place despite two penalty loops for each of them. In good weather conditions but slow tracks Carl Johan Bergman from Sweden placed third because of clean shooting. Daniel Mesotitsch also shot clean and placed fourth. Fifth and sixth place were taken by the brother of the winner Simon Fourcade (FRA, Fischer) and Fredrik Lindström (SWE, Fischer skis and boots).
