Thanks to a furious chase on the last lap Jan Schmid (NOR, Fischer skis, boots and poles) won the Gundersen competition at the Nordic Combined World Cup in Lahti (FIN). Tino Edelmann (GER) and Johannes Rydzek (GER, Fischer skis and boots) came second and third.

Edelmann got caught on the last lap

After the jumping of the Nordic Combined competition had to be canceled in the morning because of strong winds, the results of the pocket jump on Thursday counted for the starting order today. Because of his good starting position Tino Edelmann could quickly open a gap to his competitors. Behind him a very strong chasing group was formed by Jan Schmid. On the last lap the Norwegian could catch Edelmann and overtake him just with less than one kilometer to go. Edelmann wasn’t able to come back, so Schmid took the victory.

Two Germans on the podium

In the slipstream of Schmid, Johannes Rydzek (GER, Fischer skis and boots) got in contact with Edelmann but couldn’t beat him at the sprint to the finish line. So the two Germans completed the podium. Fourth place went to another German, Bjoern Kircheisen (Fischer skis and boots). Fifth and six place were taken by Haavard Klemetsen (NOR, Fischer), who was in the lead after the jumping, and Magnus Moan (NOR).
