Ivica Kostelić (CRO) has a track record which is one to be proud of. 59 podium finishes in the World Cup, 26 of them victories. One large crystal globe, four small ones, four medals at the Olympic Games.
He competed in his first World Cup race in Sölden in 1998 and has been among the elite racers in Alpine skiing ever since. After a rather patchy season in the World Cup, he showed with his silver medal at the Olympic Games in Sochi that he is certainly still a force to be reckoned with.
In the year in which his equipment sponsor Fischer Sports celebrates its 90th anniversary he has also extended his contract for another two years and will strengthen the Fischer racing family in his usual style.
Fischer Racing Director Siegi Voglreiter: "We are delighted that Ivica will continue to use our equipment also in the coming years. We are already an in-sync team and Ivica wants to really push himself once again. He wants to know what he is capable of again and prove that he can still compete for the top places."
Jan Weiss, Division Manager Alpine, is likewise pleased: "Ivica, no doubt one of the most complete racers on the ski circuit, is a huge asset for our company. Besides this, the long-standing partnership – Ivica first signed for us back in 2007 – also has a very positive impact on ski development. Our athletes give us a lot of input which is then integrated directly in the production of our skis."
The 34-year-old Croatian is also happy away from the slopes, soon to become a father and all set to marry his Icelandic partner Elin Arnarsdottir in May this year. He aims to compete for top places in the World Cup again in the upcoming season: "My goal for 14I15 is to win a medal at the Alpine Ski World Championships in Vail/Beaver Creek (USA) and achieve top results in the World Cup again. I achieved the majority of the top results in my career with Fischer. Including the large crystal globe. Our partnership has grown into a true friendship over all the years. I am proud to be a part of the wonderful Fischer family. I am happy that Fischer has managed to remain a family company to this day and that this is reflected in all areas – Happy 90th Birthday!"
