Philipp Schörghofer (AUT)

Philipp Schörghofer (AUT) will be racing with equipment from Fischer Sports over the next two years. With Grange (FRA) and Herbst (AUT) having joined the team, Fischer is delighted to announce another new signing. In this interview the Austrian talks about why he decided to change.
You already skied with Fischer until 2008. And now you have decided to come back to the Fischer family. How do you see your return?
I see the change as a new challenge, one that I'm looking forward to very much that will give me an enormous motivation boost. The ski tests have been very promising. The coaches said that the way I ski, it's as if it's always been the only choice for me.

What motivated you to try out something new?
To be honest, if someone had said to me two months ago that I'd be switching equipment sponsors this year, I would never have believed them. But seeing as it's a new contract year for racers, I just wanted to know what other equipment was like. I approached Fischer Sports simply because I was curious and because some very good Giant Slalom skiers such as Richard and Fanara are successful with them.

You had a few days of extensive tests. What finally convinced you that this was the right decision?
I had three days of tests. The third day in Innerkrems was sensational. I had an amazing feeling, the set-up was perfect. So it was primarily the equipment that was decisive. And something else that I consider to be very important is an experienced and good service man – with Franz Knauss at my side I have the perfect specialist.

You have also already tested Fischer's latest development, the VACUUM FIT boot. What do you think of it?
Yes, I was clearly fastest with it. The boot has a great fit, it's very light and interacts perfectly with the package as a whole. I feel sure that this aggressive boot will be an advantage in terms of the new equipment ruling.

What do you expect from your new equipment sponsor?
Professionalism – precisely what the company expects from me. Together with good equipment and good marketing. Above all though, the quality has to be just right!

What goals do you have for the upcoming season?
The globe for victory in the Giant Slalom World Cup has a special appeal to me. But I also want to make an impression in Super-G and Slalom. Top 30 should be within reach!

Many thanks for the interview and all the best in achieving your goals!
